Protective hair styles are styles that result in the ends of your hair being tucked away  keeping it safe from exposure to damaging agents such as wind, sun, snow etc and chemical alterations such as colour, chemical straightners etc. Also, protective styles go a long way to reduce breakage caused by the knitted scarves, turtlenecks or any other knitted fabric we wear.

Protecting hair is beneficial to all types of hair textures, relaxed, and natural. The ends of your hair being the oldest part of your hair are the most fragile; it is therefore safer and important to protect them. Due to the stress of regular detangling, washing, conditioning and styling, hair is under pressure and this causes fall out and breakage sometimes especially with the 4c hair type which is the most fragile of all hair types.

The purpose and benefits of this hairstyle include;

  • Get a new/stylish look
  • Retain length
  • grow healthier hair
  • Grow longer hair
  • reduce split ends
  • Reduce/eliminate knotting
  • Prevent hair damage

Some examples of protective styles include

  • Faux locks
  • Braids
  • Twists
  • Bantu knots
  • Sew-in Weaves
  • Straw sets
  • Wigs
  • Updos
  • Buns

      • Hi Victoria, your comment is appreciated. Kindly go through this link:
http://adf.ly/1nnwAS for guide on knowing and understanding your hair type. If you are still not sure after that, send me a clear picture of your hair so I can try to help you find out and I’m saying “try to” because a picture might not exactly be dependent in finding out hair types but I’ll try.

    2. Good day styleinblac, good thing u doing here. Pls I’d like to ask, is it rily possible for all hair types to go natural without much stress. I mean I have rily dry stubborn hair…I would actually love to have a hair like yours (amazing hair u got girl) but I’m nt too sure its gonna work or even be dt easier for me. Please what do u think?

      • Hi beautnaija, thanks so much for the support and compliment. I personally am of the opinion that everybody can grow their hair naturally no matter the texture. There are products, many of them out there to help you but even without the products, water is your friend. There isn’t a natural hair texture water cannot soften. All you need to do is spray your hair when you need to make it manageable or whenever else you need to. I didn’t use any product for one and a half year of being natural. Water did the trick each time. It can do it for you too. I advice you try it out but if it doesn’t work you can always relax it, is all still comes down to which suits you best sweetie.
